I’ve always been more drawn to summer fashion. (You’d think that’s the norm, but I’m surprised to hear for many women, it’s the opposite.) For me, it’s always been the easiness and simplicity of of the outfits you wear on hot summer days – think the outfits you wear on vacation. So basic, yet they look so good. Maybe it’s the tan, maybe it’s the heat or maybe it’s the chic straw hat that you can get away with wearing all day. It’s that “I look great but maybe I’m wearing a bathing suit under this dress and maybe my hair is still wet from the ocean look.” Maybe I’m just crazy and I just really like the way I feel on vacation? Could be.
I created a “Europe” Pinterest board the minute I we minute we booked a summer European getaway. Not to research an itinerary, just outfits. (All of the research for the travel is here.) Last year, maybe it was just a trend, or maybe I just got obsessed with coastal European style, but I bought everything blue and white and linen. And thankfully, these piece will come in great help while I’m there – in exactly one week (O.M.G.). Aside from blue and white – patterns, stripes and polka dots – along with a straw hat and fun sunglasses – is what I plan on packing…
Packing… that’s where I start to panic. What should I pack?! I’m sure as hell not wearing (or packing) heels in the “Vertical” City of Positano. Oh, and I’m trying to avoid bringing a huge suitcase. My plan: Bring the smallest, fewest toiletries and non-clothes items necessary, so there’s extra room for clothes? Sounds strategic, right? Ha. I already know I’ll pack all of the things and I’ll end up finding that one outfit that’s most comfortable – the one that’ll be easiest to walk in, eat in and sit in. And I’ll wear it again and again over the 10-day span. And yes I’m to the point where I need to stop giving a shit if I’m wearing the same damn dress in every photo.
While I could never replicate the inspiration on my Pinterest board, what’s most important is comfort – even if that means dirty hair with a hat, sneakers with insoles and the same outfit on repeat. With that being said, here are some of the photos I’ve been pinning away for months, that’ve been inspiration for my summer wardrobe – Europe vacation, or not.
